Contact microphones
« on: March 19, 2006, 06:03:30 PM »

Hi,
I intend to built the Daxophon (an instrument invent of Hans Reichel). It consist among other things of "soundbox" - a small box of wood (approx.6'x2'x1) with a little place inside, that contains contact microphons which electricaly conduct the acoustic waves and a mono jack outlet.
What reliable,battery-free, contact microphons could I choose ?
And, maybe dumb question, how should be solder two or more contact microphones to one mono jack outlet ?

Thanks for advice

Martin,

"Contact microphones" are called accellerometers.  I am sure you can find a lot of information on the web about them.

I don't know how much you know about microphone technique, but two or more microphones, separated from each other and receiving the same sound wave (either through air or some material) will have phase problems when summed to mono.  If you like this quality then I guess all is well.  But generally it should make the sound thinner and less pleasant.

The subject is much too complex to go into here, but that's a start.
